The recent elections were a real shake up in Washington and across the country. Many long time public servants are no longer in the positions of authority that they used to be in, and many new faces have been called on to participate in state or federal government.
The PTOD team has felt for some time that although we were praying before the elections, the aftermath would prove to be the most critical time to pray and intercede for the Lord to move in the hearts of the men and women that will take/remain in office. We felt very strongly that whatever happened on November 2nd, it was merely a first step in a process that God wants to take this nation through to come back to our roots and our heritage of truly being one nation under God.
As the results came in, it seemed to underscore the need to pray for our leaders like never before. In a real sense it appears that the two parties will be even more polarized now in the natural (with heavily conservative Republicans and Tea Party candidates coming in and many of the moderate Democrats being voted out leaving only the most liberal). It is my opinion, that without ANY partisanship, this nation faces an uphill struggle to return to what it once was. How much more will the struggle intensify if partisanship is introduced and gridlock, name calling, politicizing and the like ensue.
This is why we believe it is absolutely critical in these days to PRAY for our leaders. We must understand that strongholds, principalities and powers are stationed over our nation’s capital to disrupt and destroy these men and women as well as our nation, and without our prayers, newly elected officials can fall prey to the same demonic forces as the old officials.
We must pray for a government that holds only to the ideology of the SCRIPTURES and submits itself to the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ. Even more so than the American people, HE must be their ‘boss’.
Isaiah said of the reign of Christ: (Chapter 11:1-5)
1 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,
And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
2The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and might,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.
3His delight is in the fear of the LORD,
And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes,
Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;
4But with righteousness He shall judge the poor,
And decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth,
And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.
5Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins,
And faithfulness the belt of His waist.
My heart longs for a government that will set this heart attitude as a mode of operation and model for individuals and as a whole. It is up to us to pray that God causes the hearts of our leaders to embrace His rule and His ways so that there will be a righteous government that will exalt this nation by way of its humility before the Lord.
Join us in praying!
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
